Perimeter protection is one of the most challenging scenarios for the security industry, particularly given the fact that in most instances there is no mains power or internet connection so traditional CCTV systems are not an option. Installers want to keep site visits to a minimum so are looking for a robust system that can be monitored remotely, and if necessary, controlled remotely, whilst their clients are looking to keep their installation costs to a minimum without any civil works being carried out. A secure perimeter is your first line of defence whether you are protecting property, utility sites or personnel working in an exclusion zone.
Battery or solar powered PIRs with a fitted camera are a perfect solution as they will only activate when triggered by a heat source from a body. In the case of OCULi HD once the PIR has been triggered a short video of the event is sent to the Oculi portal, mobile app or remote monitoring station. A horn speaker or sounder/beacon can be connected as an additional deterrent to intruders. Crucially, any attempts to tamper with the equipment will be reported via the portal.
Installations at the edge of a field may have to deal with moving foliage that, with other wireless solutions could lead to a false alarm. With OCULi HD users can adjust sensitivity settings remotely to avoid this.
You can combine wireless PIR cameras with battery powered active IR beams to provide a complete solution for any terrain. Beam sets are available in several detection ranges with Luminite offering 60m and 100m variants with dual or quad optics for accurate detection and minimal false positives. These work with a wireless receiver and have a typical transmission range of 1km. Beam sets have a long battery life of 2 years.
PIDs are another security solution for perimeters and can be barrier mounted on a fence, free-standing or ground pressure based with detections triggered by ground movement from an intruder.
Graham Creek, MD at Luminite Electronics says ‘we have been designing and manufacturing wireless perimeter solutions for over 45 years. Our systems are used country-wide and are renowned for their long transmission range and ultra-low power consumption.’
